I am helping a friend out on a website. And I designed this logo.

As you can see, the picture is blurred and just not sharp. I tried many compression settings, and doesn't seem to get it right. Either the file is too big, or the picture is blurry. What can I do? Am I doing something wrong? I see people website will great looking graphic and excellent load time, what am I not going?

Well your image is a JPEG and that’s the appropriate format for photos you may want to try GIF. Your image is low color and not extremely detailed, so you’ll lose a lot of the “blurriness” with GIF. On the down side it may become slightly pixilated.

What program are you using to optimize?

Yeah, gif should work better for that. After you have the GIF image, try running it through an optimization program if you have one, or if not you can use this free program from adobe: http://webservices.adobe.com/optimize/main.html

Make two images - one for the words (save as GIF) and one for the horsehead (save as JPG). Best of both worlds

I don't have an optimize program. I am using Photoshop to design right now. I tried the Adobe online optimizer, it's great, but I would rather something that might work faster(local). Any suggestions?

Ulead SmartSaver - http://www.ulead.com

PhotoShop 5.5 also has web optimization that works well.
