http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/ - it doesn't say when exactly it's going to ship...

It always bugs me how Photoshop, and other graphics packages, make it easy for "designers" to make bad web pages. I remember when the slicing tools first came out, I was at the Comdex '99 show in Toronto and Adobe was showing it off there. Their demo was a website made entirely of graphics - oh yeah, that's a good idea!

Some comments/features about PS 7:

  • "Web output enhancements to easily apply transparency or partial transparency to Web page elements, including seamless edges that blend into any Web background "(sounds like .png to me - it would be nice if IE actually supported it!)
  • "New "selected" rollover state for creating more sophisticated Web site navigation bars without hand- coding"
  • "It is amazing how fast the enhanced Web Gallery in Photoshop 7.0 will build a Web page, and a designer doesn't even have to know anything about HTML to use it!"

Great - more bad web pages by graphic designers who don't know what they're doing. Anyway, some of the stuff in here sounds really neat - can't wait to try that healing brush!

You know what I would love to see? A "Save Project" feature.

Ever find yourself with a dozen or more related open files that are unsaved and un-named and that will be garbage once your finished project is done? Ever then have to shut down for some reason and then either scrap what you've got or start saving them all as projectname1.psd, projectname2.psd, projectname3.psd, projectname4.psd, etc.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to just "Save Project As" and then open it all back up later at the click of a button?

Lazy people come up with all the best timesaving ideas Smiling

I mainly use PS 6 to resize images - but this sounds like a good upgrade, something I'll check out. I'd like to get more involved with graphics this summer. Smiling

mjames, a upgrade is PSP7, going to PS7 is swapping teams lol
If you just want a graphics program to resize, enhance colors, crop, rotate etc iranview is the one to use, super fast, quick, easy and among else - free

Any idea of the price of Photo shop 7?
site says "Thanks for inquiring about Adobe® Photoshop® 7.0. This product will be available to preorder in March 2002"
I'm sure it would be pricey, so would hopefully stop a lot of bad web sites from poping up. Then again some people think if they buy the most expensive graphics program they think they can make graphics like a pro.
kinda sounds like adobe has teamed up with MS (frontpage) lol
I'll stick with PS6 & PSP

I'm sure it's going to follow the standard photoshop pricing scheme, meaning in the high hundreds of dollars. I'm sure that will put off some people... either that or they will try to get warez copies.

I think that the people most likely to jump on these sort of features are people who have been trained in print design, have used photoshop since v. 2, and think they don't need to know anything more to design for the web. Of course, these people would have ready access to PS for their print work, so it would all work out.

Oh yea, one other thing.. i think its already out. It says there you can buy it. There are reviews too, and if it didn't come out then they would be *previews* wouldn't they?

I think 'buy' means 'pre order' here.

Anyway. Nice to see that they built some kind of ACDSee in it as a File Browser. Can't wait to get the trial!

I'm a Photoshop feind so I keep it upgraded.

My probelm with this one is the CPU requirement. I have plenty of RAM, but my processor is a CYRIX II.

The tool for retouching photos looks awesome, sure would beat using the clone tool for removing dust specks from old scanned photos.

I'm hoping it'll be around 200.00 like all of the other upgrades have been.

Hello,

No one has mentioned that this version also runs native in Mac OS X....I know all of you use windows, but I thought I'd mention it. That is the biggest upgrade in verion 7 for the Mac world.

Its $609 for the full deal and they slashed the upgrade price down to $149, which is $50 cheaper then before.

Its shipping in second quarter of 2002 (late second quater I guess), so the Buy Now links are pre-order.

Edit: Thought the the links would take you straight to the article but it don't...just go to http://www.creativemac.com and click on the article, its right in front of your face when you get there. Complete pricing is on page 6 at the bottom.Smiling

Its just what I read over at http://www.creativemac.com

" Photoshop 7, even at this beta stage, looks to be an incredibly valuable upgrade for Photoshop 6 users. For Mac OS X users, there's not even an option. Fortunately, in this case, you'll be getting your money's worth. Photoshop 7 requires Mac OS 9.1 or later or Mac OS X 10.1.3 running on any PowerPC processor. Adobe Photoshop 7.0 will ship in the second quarter of 2002 for all platforms for $609. Registered users of earlier versions of Photoshop can upgrade to version 7.0 for $149 (which is $50 less than the previous upgrade fee). Upgrades from Adobe Photoshop Elements and Photoshop LE are available for $499."

I guess I'm not sure what your getting at with from.

You have top hand it to Adobe! I just got Illustrator 10 a while ago, now I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon for 7 as well...

The thing that keeps me coming back for more is the fact that 99% of the time the latest version IS better. Not like Homesite 5, I still havent upgraded simply because I haven;'t seen anything I couldn't live without...

Actually, I had an email from Macromedia this morning announcing the new Flash, doesn't tell you an awful lot but says:
Macromedia Flash MX now has:

· Rich media support — including new native support for video playback and dynamic loading of JPEG and MP3 files at runtime;
· Powerful graphic design tools — including free transform, pixel-level snapping, dynamic masks, and color mixer;
· A complete environment for developing data-driven web applications — with robust ActionScript development environment, new objects, and predefined components;
· XML support — for integrating data from any application server for data-rich web applications;
· A customizable user interface and a new Property Inspector (based on the popular Dreamweaver feature); and
· Much more!

· Learn all about the new and improved features of Macromedia Flash MX — take the feature tour!

Here's another link from CNN regarding Flash MX: http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/03/05/flash.overhaul.idg/index.html

An excerpt: "One addition to Flash MX allows video to be integrated more easily into a Flash application and viewed on the new version of the Flash Player, which will be released in conjunction with the Flash MX upgrade. That means that when a Web site developed in Flash displays video, it doesn't have to open up a separate media player."

Very cool, this is a direction I was heading in already, the software company Wildform is promoting a Flash video player interface I built on their website.

I'm disappointed that they didn't add more text manipulation features. Little things like the ability to set paragraph spacing separate from line spacing would really make my job easier! And bullets! I don't know of any graphic design programs that do bullets... maybe Quark, or newer versions of Illustrator... A spell checker, like PS 7 would be wonderful as well! It looks like they're catering to more multimedia based development rather than information-based stuff.

Loading external text files with HTML code into the .swf is a fast way to format text and update it too. And like most things related to Flash, the use of actionscript (bypassing manual features in the program like tweening etc) can lead to faster workflow in the program. At least that is what I'm finding in my first few months of working with it, Wink.

Interesting! I'll have to try that (the part about importing an HTML file). It'll keep all the paragraphs and list bullets and everything??? Interesting. I could be changing the way I work... hmmmm.... could be interesting. Oh, wait, you import it into the swf not the fla? That wouldn't work for me I don't think.

'Oh, wait, you import it into the swf not the fla?'

Well yes, the .swf simply being the compiled version which pulls the text file in via loadVariablesNum(). Flash 5 understands a few basic HTML tags, it's worth checking out.

Ahhhh... okay. Won't work for me. We have to publish in Flash 2 format (long story) so that's not going to solve my problem... although I guess added features in Flash MX wouldn't work that way either Sad Sigh, I guess I'm stuck with annoying line spacing woes and manually created bullets Sad
