Photoshop clipping path blues

Hi
I'm in the process of teaching myself photoshop and have been trying to complete a clipping path and then inserting it into Freehand. The problem is, that it inserts into Freehand as a black and white fuzzy type image.. I do save it as an EPS extension and whilst still in photoshop I draw around the object I want with the pen tool, save the path and then make into clipping path, but the image does not load into Freehand (1) separate from the rest of the original picture, and (2) in colour. Any suggestions and guidance would be excellent.
