password directory

not srue if this is the right spot for this or not move it if needed sry

i am using the passworded dir on my server for downloads to make it members only well each time they download a 1 min clip they have to reenter teh password this would annoy me i know so im trying to fix it
i decided to put the html page in that dir and actually moe the videos to a separate folder that is not locked with the theory that before they can access the download page they will put ina password and that will be the last time they have to do that
but this doesnt work if i put a file in there you have to enter the password to view but a htm or html does not have to have the password entered????
