Okay, some good and bad news... I need a breather!

Jasc Software has somewhat realeased there beta PSP 7! I justed downloaded it and briefly used it, and I am impressed! As Jasc slowly gains many new features, does this mean it's the end for Adobe's revolutionary professional product Photoshop? Will there be Photoshop 6.0, then 7.0 ??? Who will win the battle of being the #1 image editing software out there ?? The challenge goes on.

Let's hear what Photoshop 5.5 and Paint Shop Pro 7.0 beta users have to say about that...

Its actually out of Beta? I may have to try it..though last time I tried a Jasc Product it took over my system, not to mention I couldn't delete it or un-install it in the end. I'll think about it though.

Im not an expert in PSP or Photoshop but having used both I would have to say that Photoshop has always (or appeared to have) been ahead of PSP. I find it much easier to use and Ive been using 5.0 for a long time and recently just learned the abilities of the program. Im sure Photoshop has features which I will never learn. After using Photoshop Ive never been interested in PSP except for a few basic features which I find useful.

Only been using Photoshop for a few months now. A heavy user of PSP before then. I never install beta's if I can help it so I cannot comment on the new features.

Adobe Photoshop has such a huge user base (professional) that I doubt PSP will ever 'take over'. I bet the majority of Photoshop users have PSP as well along with other proggies that they prefer to use for certain graphic work.

What PSP will do is give more power to the up n coming, amateur, wannabee graphic designers/users the chance to do some pretty powerful stuff at a reasonable price. This can't be a bad thing and eventually those users may purchase Photoshop once established or employed etc.

Photoshop is the best, and is usually required to obtain certain jobs. Looks nice on your resume is what I'm saying...

Photoshop is best. Paint Shop Pro is good for beginners, but if you want to get a lot of high paying jobs or some such, you have to have a good Photoshop background.

Besides, I use it because I won it in a contest, but I've grown to love it.

Just wait and see, jasc'll come out with 8 to 10 betas before their final version of 7 is released, just like when v6.0 came out.

First phototshop is meant to be for image manilulation not Vector graphics, which PSP really truly is. PSP will never have the power that Photoshop has expecially in color compatability image malniulation etc. You should be talking about the demise of Adobe Ilistrator( forgot how to spell)

Just my two sense. Am leaving on a trip so no comebacks I can't respond to them. : )

Due to the features that are always one step ahead of PSP, Photoshop will always be the best in my opinion. Also, there is the huge user base of professional graphics users that Adobe has maintained throughout all of its releases of Photoshop...

However, because I don't want to pay the cash for it yet, I'll just have to stick with PSP Smiling

I agree that Photoshop reigns supreme (for now, at least), but I also think that PSP is a worthy contender.

PSP is a great program that doesn't use up too much system resources, less harsh on your wallet, yet still produces high-quality graphics.

I've tried Photoshop in the past -- excellent program. I let it expire since my computer took 1 minute to load it Sad

I've always used PSP since I started webdesigning and I must say that PSP 7 (currently beta 2) is very impressive. It has even more functions than version 6 and the interface has improved a lot.

Photoshop can be good, but I've tried a demo once (version 5.5) and I don't like the program. The best use of it is to manipulate images, not working with layers and other fancy stuff that PSP is designed for.

This is of course just my opinion, I know that there are lots of PS fans and I can understand why, but I'm happier with PSP (my wallet too)

Hey guys,

I have PSP 4.12 and have started to get involved quite alot in the last few months. Is there any other shareware/freeware version ahead of 4.12?? And how long does the trial last for version 7?? How about Photoshop, are any of the old versions freeware/shareware now?? I think I'll have to dig a little for vector capabilities, etc.
Thanx all

Okkaaaay.... 4.12..... you still stuck in the 80's? Smiling Just kiddin. In the beta of PSP 7, I'm already getting that message saying the beta is almost over. I haven't had much to play around with the new features Sad so I don't really know how long the beta lasts for.

I need a crack to get rid of that message that it's almost over... hmmmm... opps... I'm thinking out loud. Silly me. Laughing out loud

Cracks are really, really dumb, in my opinion.

If you either don't want to/can buy a program, you shouldn't be using it.

Photoshop is THE editor. With 5.5 now bundles with Image Ready they have fixed the compression problems that 5.0 had.

I also have PSP6 and PhotoImpact 5, I like each one for certain features and filters.

Photoshop produces the highest quality images of all.
