I like it... I like it a lot! In fact I much prefer it to the old one.

Some issues though:

  • Make the menu items horizontal - they're really hard to read!
  • It's a little hectic in terms of colours, I should cut down the overall number of colours used

....Checks... Nope can't see anything else - looking forward to critiquing the finished product!

MMM. I see what you mean with the menu. I can't make them horizontal right now, but I will rework that area to make it work.

As for the colors, I think the menu will stay colorful, but I'll try to tone down the content area. The funny thing was I started the redesign in order to bring the site down to 4 colors, then found I really wanted 6. Then I wanted the menu to have a sort of "block grandient" (gets from lighter to darker) thing going, which I will keep. I think i'll use one of the current colors for the showcase, and the text is the background color, so that should be ok.

[EDIT] New Menu, check again. [/EDIT]

I dunno. After trying a bunch of different horizontal styles, I couldn't get it to look the way I want. I think that moving them off the edge helped readability though.

Ugh... I'm a perfectionist and not very good at design. A dangerous mix.

Well, two designs later. I don't love it, but it's alright:

Hm, this last one looks pretty good though still pretty boxed and this is a little better on the eyes as well. Being a bit of a perfectionist myself, I find that the "corner" in the orange drop is a bit off putting, it doesn't look like a drop, it looks like a blob.

I prefer this one over the other two that you have, keep at it. Smiling

The last one is by far the best. You're headed in the right direction here. I like the lighter overlay under the logo, although the text should be entirely in the sky area so it's easier to see. Try moving "creative" up so it's closer to teh "orangedrop" text.

Also straighten out the navbar text and space it evenly. Watch your use of font styles. All of your graphic text shoudl be the same font and almost the same size and style. You've got some in bold and some not, and different sizes used too.

Good work.

Renegade: I'll look into rounding out the drop out, and maybe making it less boxy with gradients to make the main area float above the news?

Megan: I'll definitely move the creative up a bit.

The navbar will be evenly spaced when I actually code the site... that will be css, so I'm not really worrying about it now.

The only text I plan on making a graphic is the logo and the "news" (which I'm not even sure will be a graphic), so I'm not terribly concerned with that, but I will make sure they're all similar sizes. I don't think I have anything bold, it's just that my graphics program changes the width once you hit a certain size.
