Multi-Resolution compatiable webpages!? - I need help!
Hi guys, this is my first post here!
Ive been creating a webpage with two frames. The top frame is a basic navigation center that stays on screen the entire time. I have created the entire menu with graphics that are 800 pixels wide ( the page is optimized for 800*600). I am using imagemaps to cordinate the click locations on the graphics. I am very pleased with the setup at 800*600 and above resolutions. My problem lies in 640*480.
I currently load the graphics in with the height arguments in pixels.. ie HEIGHT=20 WIDTH=800... this bar fills the entire length of the screen. Now... i have also tried HEIGHT=5% and WIDTH=100% in order to shrink it down doe 640*480.... the problem lies in the click areas for the image map. If my area is (0,700,20,780) then this area now lies outside the screen at 640*480... the image map does not allow you to use percentage values, they must all be pixels. I am stuck as to the solution!
I recently visited www.microsoft.com and viewed there page at 800*600.. it looks nice.. as soon as I change to 640*480 the page itself changes to customise to the screen (ie it redraws itself nicely)... i look at the code and they are not using percentage values for height and width arguments... Im not sure what they are doing , any hints?
Sorry for the long post, thank you to anyone who replies!

Hi there, welcome to TWF!
Well I would guess they use a table set at a % width and use small graphics set in columns in this table so that the table adjusts to different resolutions.

I understand that part ... getting the picture to redraw for different resolutions is not a problem, but getting the click areas for the imagemap to take into account the different sized graphic is a problem. Anyone know the solution?

I haven't tried this yet, but will soon... you might want to check http://javascript.internet.com/user-details/resolution-page.html. It should be able to work with a few modifications... e.g. instead of clicking the button use the <body onLoad="whatever">
command.

You could use Macromedia Flash. Its vector based, so it'll adjust to different screen resolutions.
