layout/colour scheme review request please
Hello I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my site before I go any further.
I have spent the last week day and night working on the layout.
I haven't got too much content yet but would like to know what you think of the layout so far and also the colors. here is the url http://www.searchmebaby.com
P.s I hope I posted this in the right category, if not I apologize.
Chris

Should be in the website critique area, a Mod will move this soon... Also read the psoting rules first, you need to review other sites first before members will review yours...
Welcom to TWF!

Well, it depends on the type of review he's (I'm assuming "Chris" is a guy, but I'm probably wrong...) wanting. I always get confused here. I think if he wants a review on his site overall, then it goes in the "Website Critique Area", but if he just wants a few opinions on the layout and colors so far, it fits in this category. A mod will get here though, and if it's not moved soon, then it's in the right place.
Now for my actual critique:
To tell you the truth, it's not very good, at all. The banner is very basic and not appealing, and the color scheme is not working for me. Also, you have a lot of empty space where it's obvious something should go, but it isn't there. It needs a lot of work.
I don't understand what this site is supposed to be. Even though it's still under construction, it would be nice to see some sort of message about what the site is intended to be and what to look forward to, so that you have some chance at drawing people back when you're ready to open.
Good luck.

Carry on chaps! Oh, and welcome to the forums chris!
It's ok to comment on this, but keep it to the layout and colour scheme. It's almost irrelevant that you can't see what the site is about as that's not - always - directly related to the colour scheme/layout.
First impressions on this are bad, that pink is far too garish and the animation on the logo's very 1998 (but not in a good way!) Also the font and 3D style of the logo's far too retro, blame MS Word for that, now whenever I see a logo like this I think of their Wordart tool ... Yuk! If you do stick with this logo I'd anti-aliase it so that it blends with the background better, the edges look very jagged at the moment.
Stay away from the grey too IMO, and start from the start, pick your colours, draft a template in a graphics program (Photoshop/GIMP/Inkscape something like that) without worrying about the constraints of an actual web page, doing things in a methodical, iterative way leads to the best results
You could even post up an image for us to look at (again this would be the right section for that).
If this gets too much like a critique, a moderator will lock it until you've completed 3 reviews of other sites, although a critique isn't what you need IMO, as the site isn't finished.
a Padded Cell our articles site!

I've also changed the title so it doesn't read so much like a critique.

Wow you guys are harsh, I like the honesty though. I followed your advive and added a message as to what the future will bring to the site. Also added a new color, I must admit I never liked that one peachy color though I left it in one spot till I have time to change it and the ads that are within it at the same time. I actually have had mixed feedback on the colors scheme, about 10 people said they loved it. The banner is only temporary until I get a better program than Xara which really sucks but I didn't have to buy it at least. Oh someone thought I was a guy, they were right good guess. Overall I think I'm doing good since 10 days ago I didn't have a clue as to what went into making a website, as well as never having done any programming either. I thank all of you for your time and advice.

Its a good start I might say, You have a good layout going on there, but yes the colors could be modified, you can use the same colors, but you can tone it down a bit or use some gradients and shadows to give it more personality... The banner should be changed to something a bit contemporary and the font-style could be different... You have minor adjustment problems with tests, like alignment and paddings...
Good start though, keep working on it... Good Luck
