What size should I make my web layout? It is a design/graphix/tutorials site.

Many people say you should design for a resolution of 800 by 600 but I say design for ALL resolutions. But, if you find that too hard then yes, design for 800 8 600 Laughing out loud

I agree with Renegade to a certain degree, but I think it depends on the type of site and the content. I personally don't like sites that stretch right across the screen if there are lots of pictures with text as it can make the layout look awful and long lines of text can become hard to read. I design for 800*600 with a fixed width, mostly centered.

For a graphics site you should probably cater to higher screen resolutions. Check your site stats, but my guess is that most of your users will be using 1024 and higher. Make sure it works at 800x600 but it should probably look best at 1024 and higher.

The best way to know is really to look at the numbers coming in. If your site is new you might want to ask other sites on the same topic what their numbers are like, or go to a place where graphics people hang out (http://www.graphic-forums.com was founded by a TWF alum.)
