Just wondering

I'm using Photoshop for about 6 years now, currently running PS7.

I believe since version 7 (could be 6) there's this new fill functionality on the Layer tab... can't figure out what the difference is between that one and the opacity:

Not that I need the answer desperately or something, I was just wondering, but does anyone know this?

Maybe the FILL only lowers the opacity of what you fill with. So you can fill with 50% opacity and use the layer at 100% opacity still. I have no idea, as I use 6 still. 7 never worked on my computer properly. I need to upgrade my RAM/CPU first.
