Improving image quality with Contrast Masking

I came across this very interesting article on how to improve images that have detail hidden in shadows or highlight. It will turn good images into great ones! The technique is called Contrast Masking:

I'm using it as a feature for my PhotoPaint 8 image script, here is a picture of the dialog for those who are interested. Mine updates the image each time you change a setting - tweak till perfect! Not much use to anyone else as Corel switched over to Visual Basic for scripting after version 8. Anyway, if you do lots of images, writing your own script is the only way to go!
