ImageReady problem

Have you ever had this before?

A collegue sent me a set of anigifs. He asked me to get rid of the transparency.

So I opened all the gifs, unchecked the Transparency checkbox in the Optimize tab and chose 'Save Optimized' for each file. Then I sent the new gifs back to my collegue. After a couple of minutes he responded saying to send them again, but not the original ones, but the fixed ones...

'Hmmm' I thought...'Am I going crazy?'

Again, I opened all the gifs to see (surprise) that the transparency checkbox in the Optimize tab was checked again Confused

Is this a known ImageReady problem? Does anyone know how to solve it?

Image ready is a pain for adding transparency to gifs. You have to select the colours you want to be transparent and then cut it out of the image before saving it.

It does not have an option like fireworks where you can just open an image and use the colour picker to add a transpaent colour to a gif.

Adobe really need to sort this out, is the only thing Fireworks is better at than Imageready.

open it in photoshop, not image ready, save for web, then uncheck your transparency box.

hope this helps,,

Thanx, but I believe you can't save animated gifs in Photoshop, can you?

Why not add a white layer underneath the transparency? That wouldn't be too much more trouble. (Really you are right, ImageReady should get rid of the transparency, but why fight it?)

huh Confused

Anyways, I solved it! And this seemed to be the trick:

  • I opened the anigifs in IR7. The transparency checkbox was checked.
  • Unchecked the checkbox. This is the part where I saved them day the before yesterday, which leaved the transparency on, causing troubles in the .EXE I needed the gifs for, BUT:
  • In the Optimization tab, I changed GIF into JPG (-->no transparency).
  • And then changed it back to GIF again, which leaved the transparency checkbox unchecked.
  • saved optimized.
  • reopened to see that transparency had been gone: problem solved :scatter:

But it's still a strange thing that you can save transparency in images that have their canvas 100% filled...

goodbye for now Smiling
