I like site X. Make our site like site X
I was wondering if anyone has any good examples of shopping sites featuring multiple product categories (more than 10). After nearly 3 years with the same design, we have decided it's time to redesign this site, Showtime Dance Shoes. One of the company owners likes the Home Shopping Network.
It's easy for them to say:
"I like site X. Make our site like site x"
What would you do now?
Are there any procedural guidelines you follow to help go from concept to completion?

It never hurts to ask if they have the same budget as company X

I think the best thing to do would be to make a list of what, specifically, the client likes about site X. The organization, the navigation, the design, whatever. Then you can go about designing those key features into their site while keeping their unique needs in mind.
