I need help!!! - Flash
Hello,
I need help regarding Flash. I have never used it but a team member has done up a flash presentation (which is fantastic) but I don't know what file sizes flash files can go up to.
I have always been of the opinion to keep images and the like small for faster download ... and I have NO idea about Flash.
Please help with advice.
The swf filesize is over 4MB.
The flash presentation is the main part of the site ... tells a story and so on.
Thanks.
Annette

Hi,
I believe that when exporting to the swf format there is an option for the amount of compression that will be used. Obviously, selecting a higher compression or lower quality would decrease the file size. With flash, you are also able to create "loading" screens (not sure of the exact link- will post it when I return home... or perhaps someone else knows) so the user will have something to look at when the presentation is loading.
Additionally, the good thing about flash is that it can start playing before it has completely loaded... so visitors can see the presentation as it loads for them. Since you're just displaying a story, this method should work fine.
Good luck,
Brian

Here is a tutorial for a basic Flash preloader.
