How in the world can I change .bmp files to .jpg files?
I have scanned pictures for my website, but geocities Pagebuilder won't upload .bmp files. It would be best if I could change the files using MS Paint, Quicktime, Print Artist, and Microsoft Publisher.

Yes you need an image editor or one of those small programs that allows you to convert images. Paint Shop Pro and Ulead PhotoImapct offer trial downloads. Adobe Photoshop trial doesn't allow saves so don't bother. It's really the best there is but I use it and then use PhotoImpact for compression. Bitmap files are huge, so you are better of with gif og jpeg anyway, by the way Windows 98: the paint program alllows you to save as gif or jpeg now however you have no control of compression and quality. download.com has all kinds of conversion programs if that's all you need to do.

I think if you look on download.com you might find something that allows you to save gif/jpeg files from paintbrush... I remember downloading this a while ago, but I forget where exactly it came from... but if you do a few searches, you might find it. Good luck!

Or you can do it the easy way..
Got Windows 98?
Open the file in Paint, click "save as", select "JPEG"..
NO download required! Of course any (or any good) graphics program will do the same..

You can also put the bitmap in a new html doc in frontpage express, the freebie from microsoft, and select save. The only problem is that it changes the bmp's to gifs. Not much point in me telling you really. Stilll, anyone else mught like it.
