how to go about Trick scary web page...???
hi i was once sent a link to a web page some time ago that initially started with background music which was a popular lovey dovey type of song, and the only thing displayed was the lyrics to the song...., then suddenly, a very very scary image filled the screen with a horrific & very loud scream.no pages changed or loaded, it was all built into that one page. It really scared the beans outta me! and all my mates! hilarious..
I would like to replicate that or create something very similar, but to be honest i really don't know where to start..the more i think of it the more complex it seems to become.
Can i do that with just html or javascript ? although i have Macromedia Studio MX , i want to have a page that doesn't need flash player to be viewed etc.. can anybody please give a rough idea which would be the simplest way to achieve this fantastic trick ??
there was no redirection to another page, no popups...it was all on the one page but had some kind of delay...
Also if anybody has seen a page like what i have described and still has the url, please pass it on.
Thanks

use flash
otherwise, use an animated gif with a large delay and put text in. embed some music with a scream at the end. time it right.
or, use Javascript to replace the text with an image and start a scream sound based on elapsed time.

Thanks for replying Suzanne
Never conversed (textual or otherwise) with a Canadian called Suzanne before. I feel uhm ... exactly the same as i did before...lol
That aside..
I can tell it's going to be a massive T&E (trial & error) excercise using the anim gif's. but i will give it a shot if i have to.
what i was angling for specifically was any kind of HTML timer tricks?
I know i can play a background sound ON PAGELOAD, which would be the song. but how do i terminate and start sounds in HTML ?
or can i should i say? or should i edit the song and whack a scream in? how would i time such a thing to coincide with the image being displayed or vice versa ???
thinking about it, it has to be a javascript timer with multiple load/execute events fired on the end of the timer cycle ...
where to find such a script... oh lordy... i think i might stick to lemonade.
damn i wanted to have this done before Halloween too....
A bit weird bit now..
do mounties ALWAYS get their man ? what if the perpetrator was a haemaphradite ? or worse... a changling ? (<--deep space nine)
If i visit canada, will i want to come back home ? Or will i be forced ?
does everybody drive a horse in canada ? or just ride them ?
lol. sorry hope none of that's offensive to you. i am just having a bit of fun, takes the mundane aspect away.
you seem to reply to so many post's, must be a boring at times ?
or should all this be in a private message..ooops hehe
thanks for your help/ideas. i will post the result of my efforts to you here.
rob.

Look for JavaScript to control the music and image swaping, it has a timing element and you can get free scripts that use it just by searching for "time+javascript".
It shouldn't be overly complex, just plan it out sensibly first, then see how it goes.

no idea on the mounties, they are pretty and ride horses but I've mostly had interactions with the ones in cars on highways, and as far as I can tell, yes, they are hyper-diligent in the performance of their duties, gender issues aside!
If you visit, you will want to stay and/or move here. It happens to everyone and will wear off in a week or two.
No driving horses, but different folks in different areas ride them and use them as transportation, yes. In my local area there are a lot of Mennonite folks who still use horses to get around. Not a bad plan, frankly.
I do respond to a lot of posts, it's a compulsion. I cruise the board to give my mind a break between working projects.

Right. Thanks for that. I'll get cracking on it and post the results here. somewhere.I am pretty sure the JS can do it, but didn't want to spend ages & ages trying to find out, when there are so many bright, competent and experienced people here. Like yourself.
Send out a search party if i'm not back in 10 days. If neither i nor the search party are back in an additional ten days...
we've escaped!
lol.
Thanks
