How exactley do you go on creatign a layout? with HTML?

I've got this website http://stonerworld.net

and i cant coem up with a nice layout for it. i'd want to use HTML to code it, but i'm not sure on how to do that.
what i did was just use paint to coem up with a few boxes where i want to put soem **** in. and then i used a code to place soemthign above that image at the exact spot.... and then to make it look different i put soem kinda effect on it with paint shop pro ( i cant use that program all too well either ) and i'd liek the website to look nice? is this the way to do it?

now i dotn know what thats called. and i dotn knwo any other ways of makign a layout and i really need to make a nice lookign layout for the site.

and i'd also need it to look somethign similar in the forum so somethign simple that would make the whole site look liek it belongs.

being a much better coder than designer, I usually let the GD come up with an idea as a PSD (Photoshop) which I then recreate in HTML and CSS as closely as possible.

Well...you'll need to learn how to write html. There are a multitude of places on the web to learn and books you can read.

Do a Google seach to find tutorial sites, and check out Amazon or even your local library.

What you might want to do is find a free or low cost template to work from. Then you can study it to figure out how it was put together while you're building your site with it. That's an easy way to get something that looks decent, quickly.

Otherwise you're going to have to spend a lot of time learning how to use your software. What a lot of us do (or used to do), is make a mock-up of our design in the graphics program first. Then you would slice it up and plug it into your HTML. Personally, I use a hybrid a lot now, working back and forth between HTML and the graphics software. It takes experience, but you'll learn. Just keep plugging away.
