I use two graphics programs almost exclusively:

Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and Adobe ImageStyler 1.0

I use ImageStyler for virtually all my text graphics. It is a terrific program except...

1/ It is a huge resource hog. Even with 256meg of RAM, forget about having ImageStyler and HomeSite (another resource hog) running together.
2/ Adobe dropped the program. Version 1.0 is the first and last.

I have read that Photoshop 6.0 comes bundled with an app called ImageReady - does anyone know if this product is similar to ImageStyler?

I am in a bit of a bind regarding an upgrade to Photoshop. Apparently, the installation of Photoshop 6 will render ImageStyler inoperable and, being a discontinued program, Adobe is not offering a fix for this.

If Photoshop6/Imageready can fill the shoes of ImageStyler, I'd be willing to take the plunge - anyone able to compare the two?

Well, I hven't used Image Styler in years - not since it first came out in 1998. I remember going to an Adobe seminar thing in Toronto and they were demonstrating Image Styler. Everyone was very impressed - it made it so easy to create good looking graphics so I'm surprised it didn't catch on more than it did. It's on my computer here at work though... will open both toegether and take a look.

Image Ready will do some of the things that Image Styler does. It has styles, for example, but not nearly as many options for them as Styler does. Image Ready is more of a simplified Photoshop with image optimization tools and things like that. As the name suggests, it's meant to get images READY to go on a web page - slicing, animation, optimizing etc.

ONe thing you might want to try as a replacement for Image Styler is Fireworks - I find these two programs to be quite similar.
