Graphics slicing and dicing - Need a program to dissect images
Hi folks. I'm not much of a graphics guy so I need some help on a basic question please.
I use PSP 4 for my graphics work. I know photoshop is top dog but I really can't go that route yet(learning curve, price, etc.)
What I need to know is what program do I need for cutting images into smaller pieces to reassemble as the entire graphic.
Is this feature available in PSP 5?
You know I see these great graphics appearing as a series of smaller graphics that become the big image. But I have never seen a grid system on PSP 4. I've read the good words about Fireworks. Is that a program I might consider for my next stage of graphics development? Does it have this slicing up feature?
Forgive my ignorance and I await your always helpful advice.
Thanks in advance.
Regards...

I don't know what your budget is like, but ULEAD Smart Saver has optimization and slicing. It also creates the HTML for you.

Okay, I'm confused. What's the difference between Fireworks 2 and Flash 3 ??? Too many of them ... phew! But I'd sure love to know. I've ordered several new programs and those two I was looking into next .. still waiting on the ones I ordered.
Thanks.

Fireworks is more like photoshop and illustrator combined with the features of several other programs... and Flash is used for creating FLASH animation... funny that:) I would look into buying the DREAM TEAM pack from macromedia... thats got all the good stuff cramed into one... then theres Director, freehand, dreamweaver lots of great programs

Jodys,
Thanks for the info. You seem to know alot about graphic software, so I'm gonna pick your brain.
I just ordered a new pc (bare = without any software installed) so I can load it down with big graphic programs coz I want to be a graphics and web design guru when I grow up .. lol.
Anyway, this is what I have now:
Photoshop 4 + Eye Candy
Paint Shop Pro 5
Wacom tablet
scanner
digital cam
web cam
Arachnophilia
Adobe Pagemill
What I ordered which has arrived, but not used yet ... waiting to install it on new pc when it comes:
Ulead PhotoImpact 4
Kai Power Goo
Kai Photo Soap
What I recently ordered and is coming sometime within the next couple weeks, I hope:
Bryce 4
Poser 3
Kai Power Tools
NetObjects Fusion 4.0
Design Painter 5
What's on my shopping list to buy:
Flash 3
Fireworks 2
.... who knows what's next
Anyway, am I duplicating efforts here and/or way over my head in software which I don't need or is too far advanced for me?
Any others you would recommend which are not on my list?
Thanks in advance.
