Graphics based site - suggestions needed
I am doing something completely different and impractical and have created a site (it's my own so I'm allowed) that is basically a jpg image inside a couple of tables with background colour, etc. All the links (hotspots) and text are within the jpg image. It's a small site in terms of page numbers, and the way I have the png file set up it's easy to create and update all pages. I've never done a site this way before for obvious reasons, but what the heck, I'm allowed to experiment with my own site.
Now before you roll your eyes at the impracticality of it, the hotspot links (nav menu) are a library item so easy to update over the whoe site, and it looks good (IMHO). The problem is that it won't rank well with search engines if the crawlers can't trawl through text to see what the site is about. Ideally I'd like to place a table over the image and write the text in the table but I can't do that unless I use a layer. In my experience layers are mostly useless because they move around when you resize the screen so unless there is some way to fix layers, that option is out.
I guess I could create the whole thing in Flash and use a scrollable flash textbox or some such. Or maybe I could dice and splice the image and put it back together in a table, typing text in the middle data cell and using the corresponding image piece as background in that cell rather than an image insert. Sounds complicated though.
Does anyone have any suggestions? (I would post a link if I could but the site's not up yet.)
