Good graphics program?
What is a good graphics program that allows you to do lots of cool stuff with graphics, especially for creating logos. i have photoshop 6.0, but it doesn' thave an option to create square or circle filled objects. So its not to go for creating buttons and stuff. Any recommendations.Adobe Illustrator is good, but i can only get the tryout version, and you can't even save in that version

It sounds like Macromedia's Fireworks would be a good option for you to try. You can download it at http://www.macromedia.com
You can create shaped objects in PS 6 with the set of shape tools (they're directly under the text tool). Then you can easily add layer effects to it - a bevel and drop shadow gives you a nice looking button in no time. I haven't played with this feature too much yet, but so far I'm not too keen on the way they work....

Whatever you choose remember there are plugins (most are universal) that are really handy, things like bevels (better than the programs ones), radial blurs, techno effects, splatters, oval buttons, round buttons (makes these from square or rectangle shapes) and things like blade pro (or super blade pro) and eye candy if you want to buy some, but heaps of great free ones out there.

http://www.thinkdan.com/tutorials/photoshop.html also has tuts for Photoshop, Illustrator and freehand, check out the resouces page for more and tuts for more programs
A few good filters (plugins), but most of these effects can be done by the graphic program itself, things like bevel (inner or outer) can be done without a bevel filter.

You can try Ulead PhotoImpact, which is easy to learn and a lot of features for web design. You can download fully functional 30-days trial. And also the price of product is very resonable.

Photoshop 6.0 is the best graphics program you can get... If you can't do a filled shape i suggest that you immedietly start looking for tutorials. A good start that i used when i was a PS newbie are designsbymark.com , Mark's the greatest!

Yes I make all my graphics in PhotoImpact, in Terragen I am a beginner and I make backgrounds for other projects in Terragen and then postprocess them in PI.
I know that mostly people are using PS, but I do not have it and can't say anithing, but I really love PI, also because of web design features - slicer, image maper and rollovers.

Welcome to TWF Dinkz,
Do you have any examples of what you've done in PS?

Don't worry Sandra, your not the only one, even thou I do have PS, I never use it, I always use Paint Shop pro, way faster and easier to use IMHO, but everyone is biased towards their favorite graphics program. There is no "best" program, its what your comfortable with and are happy using, in the end its the user, not the program that makes the graphic.
