Fonts in PhotoShop5.5
Hi
I've downloaded some dingbats fonts to use for icons on a web site.
I've unzipped the files and put the ttf's into windows/fonts. They're there alright but I don't see them in PhotoShop or ImageReady so I can't use them!
Any ideas how to solve that? I've restarted my computer and all but it's still not in the program. Does anyone know if PhotoShop takes its fonts from another folder?
Your help is much appreciated,
Anat

I'm not exactly positive about this, because I use a Mac. But I am pretty sure that photoshop and imageready use their own font box. Check in C:/programs/photoshop and see if there is a folder called fonts...or just search for "fonts". Then paste them in there too. That should work.

I've had this problem as well. What I've done, which seems to work, is open up a word processor or something and see if you can use the font in that. Then just type some stuff, close the program, shut down your computer, then restart and open Photoshop. Worked for me.

Yeah, you might just have to restart photoshop too.
Another font problem I've had with Photoshop is that some fonts appear at the bottom of the list, rather than in alphabetical order with the rest of them. Is there any way to fix this or otherwise sort the fonts in there?
Also, can anyone recommend a good (preferably cheap) font management program?

This is very frusrating!
I've tried everything you've all said and more but nothing seems to work. I've restarted my computer (and PhotoShop obviously ) twice, and I tried using MS Word. Guess what those irritating fonts don't show up in Wored either!
I've installed fonts lots of times before and it was never a problem. I can see the ttf files in windows/fonts alright ( I can even see the font map and the fonts are okay - all the characters are visible). There's no hidden fonts folder either. I searched the whole disk for fonts folders. There's a font folder in Program files/common files/adobe which sounded very promising but actually it doesn't have any font files (ttf) in it and I really don't know what's it for.
I usually consult my pc expert on these questions, only happens to be somewhere in Nepal (with my boyfriend and some other friends). I should have gotten him a sattelite phone or something
Any other ideas anyone?

I've actually had something similar to this happen. I unzipped something like 500 fonts into my Fonts folder, but could never get them to work in any programs. My immediate thought is that maybe the Font folder can only hold so many fonts?

Nah... do you really think so?
I've only put five fonts. It's a brand new computer and OS (WIndows Millenium), so there aren't many fonts installed. I have two other older computers with at least double the amount of fonts. Could be something specifically wrong with the OS now that I think about it - though Windows Me is supposed to be relatively bug-free. I'll check Microsoft's site.
Thanks and I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

I found it!
I read the instructions on the Windows help files.
Turns out that for some fonts it's not enough to just put them in the fonts folder. You should put them unzipped in another folder, then go to the control panel/fonts and from the file menu select "install new font" and them choose the fonts that you put in the tmp folder.
It works!

LOL...who reads the manual first?
I have the same problem with Font's not being in alphabetical order in PS 5.5.
Most of them are...but them some of them start with A's after my last 'Z' fonts. I guess this is just some sort of bug.

Yeah Roo, I got the same thing. Even when I install new fonts, some appear before the Z end some after the Z. Weird huh?
Seems that PS6 has got a new text-engine. Hope this will nuke the bug.
