Fixing Background?

If I have a bordered background on a web page, how do I "fix" it so it always appears correctly regardless of the viewer's monitor size?

Here is the site I am referring to:

I love my side border background, but I think the border repeats on larger monitors.

Thanks,
Deborah

Even if you fixed the background it will still over lap in any screen size set bigger than 1046.

Just extend it a little

at the moment it measures 1046x128, make it at least 1300 wide and you can shorten the height to make it smaller (graphic size), even down to 50 (or within the marbled lines)

Another way to do side bordered backgrounds to cut down on the background image size is to make a table for the whole page, make the body margins=0 and add the patterned part of the image into the left table cell and use a 50x50 white gif as background in the main cell - you make this small graphic to work in Netscape etc with other tables used.

To me the easiest fix would be to make two separate graphics. One would be the background with just the marble. The other would be the red stripe. Make the redstripe as long as you want and shoot it down the side of your center table, i.e. rowspan=99 .
