Dreamweaver & Layer/Table Scrolling Query

I'm having trouble with the middle white section of this site. I want to have all the thumbnails of the wallpapers (not uploaded yet) centered in the middle of the white section, one on top of the other, with the surfer scrolling their way through the `list'. Bearing in mind that the white part should be the only section of the screen that scrolls and I don't want to use frames.

I can get it to work if I stick to using Layers only...by making the Layer overflow properties `scrollable'...although this puts both an inactive horizontal scroll and an active vertical scroll on the white section - I didn't like the inactive horizontal bit...but I moved on

So the problem is I want to convert my layers to tables to ensure better cross-browser compatability. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't convert to tables due to layer overlapping (which I don't want anyways), and I don't want to stay with layers only.

Question: Is there a way to have tables, with the white section having a vertical scroll only?
