What I usually do when importing the artwork that goes into my self-produced Animes is run it through Abode Streamline, get the lines nice and smooth, and then I run itinto Photoshop, making sure that the black = black, and the white = white.
It -also- helps if you ink over it very very carefully before transfering into the computer.
