OK guys I'm FAR from an expert in graphics design, but someone has asked me to develop a publicity poster. The image they are using is pretty basic and I'm playing around with how to make the text look professional on top of their image.

As far as the demension for printing the image:
They want one that will be a 3.5x5 or 4x6 postcard
and another that is an 11x14 poster

How do I set this up? Do I need to create separate images (one formated for 3.5x5 and one for 11x14) or can I just enlarge/reduce the size to print the postcard and poster.

What are the dememsions in pixels for 3.5x5 or 4x6 postcard? and 11x14 poster? Is there any specific format I need to use if it is going to be printed professionally?

Help.

Your graphics program should allow you to create a document with dimensions in inches. I don't have time to look that up right now (or do the math...). As for printing, it might be a good idea to call up the printers and ask them what they prefer and about any other issues you should be aware of. Ask about dpi too.

From the sounds of it you are not using a vector package to make your image, you are using a paint program. With paint programs you cant make your images bigger without loosing quality.

I would keep the proportions of the image the same as what the printers want and also print your own up on your printer after all they work in dpi too.

Hey guys.

Thanks for the info. I decided to subcontract this job to a graphic designer. It "seemed" simple enough at first, but I ran into problems because the images I was given were small/low res and looked really grainy ay poster size. I thought it best to pass it off to a designer who would be able to make the proper enhancements or create more of an illustration for the poster.

Thanks for the advice though Smiling
