CSS and Usability Text Fonts

My client's clients (scientists) use a very wide variety of computers, Mac, Unix and even Windows.

I'm using CSS for their site and I think I might have made a mistake. I'm generally using Arial 11 Pt or 12 Pt for the text.

What are the opinions of my learned colleagues here. Should I have left the font sizes blank so that those with eye problems can set the size?

Definitely don't use pts for font sizes in CSS. That's the most unreliable method. Try using ems or percentages. I've had luck with percent sizes but others would say ems are better. That way the font sizes will adjust but you can still make them more or less the size you want (relatively speaking Wink)

Also, use generic fonts for ALL OSs I'v found that most people just use fints from windows and nothing else.

Things have changed a bit in the last few years. Win IE still can't resize pixel set font sizes. For accessibility, % or em is a better choice.
