Creating a visual identity ..... for yourself!
Have you created a visual identity for yourself? Or maybe another indivudal? I'm looking for ideas on how to break this down and teach it to others and I need more examples. One obvious example is my butterfly and what I've done with my site.
Background: at work I'm building some resources on designing ePortfolios. These are basically like the online portfolios web designers would create, but for people in other fields. So they'd have samples of their work, more details on their experience, things like that. Part of what they're learning here is to communicate visually. For their ePortfolio the professors are suggesting that they create a visual identity for themselves. I need to come up with some resources to help them do that.

Yeah, I've had to do this several times for my design course I'm taking. Usually, a good place to start is with the logo then business card, letterhead, cd cover, etc, etc.
A lot of the time, a good layout for a BC, letterhead, etc comes from a good, well thought out logo.

yeah, for me I have three visual identities that can be attributed to demonhale, like my avatar, then I always use the lavender flower, (i use a lavender flower avatar on other forums)... and finally colors on the shades of green...
usually persons in the net which would have to be defined visually that is a good example are magicians, either they use an elaborate logo of a club or spades, and others just flying wand with stars... so it relates to their business. Another example is there was this very serious business consulting firm that uses a shell as its symbol or visual identity and the reason was that the founder likes to collect sea shells...

I've always found that my logo is always strong, powerful and iconic. I had it in my MSN pic the other week and out of nowhere, an old contact I havent spoken to since starting the company up suddenly asked why I had pinched Curbed Infinity's logo. My display pic had no reference to the website name, address or any such details. He simply caught it off the footer of another website and immediately got the name, the conpany portfolio and url all unlocked from his memory by just seeing the icon.
So I was pretty glad with that. Hopefully it strikes home to all my clients and their visitors.

You probably already know this Megan but try keep away from gradients and the like
One has to be sure that a logo will look good small as well as big.
Yay for vectors!
