I've never used Ventura 8, but to me it seems more like it's for publishing, not graphics. I don't think it would be too good for graphics alone, but I could be wrong since I've never used it. Most serious graphic designers use either Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro (or even sometimes GIMP)...

I agree. If you're serious about doing graphics, you'll probably want photoshop. If you want a more basic program, lacking some of the features of photoshop (but still, overall, a good program) you would want Paint Shop Pro.

Thank you for responding, I do have PSP. As for Photoshop it is priced way out of my accessibility. I graduated as a photo and ad major years ago. Also worked as a repro tech for yrs. before computer graphics. I left and became a social worker and am currently unemployed trying to learn on my own. Ventura8 has lots of graphic layout and manipulation features, as well as Photo Paint 8. Features like pick, path node edit, brush, eye dropper, transparency resizing and format conversion tools. I have an option to work in the Adobe Photo Shop Space within Photo Paint? I can move back and forth between Ventura8 and Photo Paint. I just don't know how to use all the featured tools, ergo my original post.

Well, since I've never used it, I don't know how to use it either I searched Amazon and couldn't find any books, so I guess your only choices are to a) read the manual, and b) search the web for tutorials.
