Changing Image Colors?
Hello all. Any and all help on this question is very much appreciated.
I was told that a graphic designer familiar with Photoshop should be able to do what I need but I'm not even sure of how to phrase what it is that I need.
I have a image of a blue picnic backpack. The image is open showing the contents (wine glasses, plates, napkins, etc). The backpack is available in 4 other colors but I do not have images for those.
I'm wanting to hire a graphic designer to create new images for the various colors but the color change has to work around the contents (wine glasses, etc). I have 100+ of these that I want to do. An example of a website that is already doing this is: http://presentdaygifts.com/product_pages/gft01007.htm
Would someone please tell me what I need to be asking for? Also, what do members of this group think is a fair price to pay someone to do them?
Thanks so much!
Sam

Ok the site you mentioned has a mouseover event thats using an image for color handles which the site has different pics of the same bag image with different colorization... Moving your mouse over a particular handle replaces the image of the bag to the desired event...
These can be esily done, we dont mention pricings here at the forums, search for some graphic designers in the net to make different colored images for your single picture...
Post a single sample pic here and gladly change them to three colors for you so you could see it can easily be done...

Not really, just had a lot of practice; I was doing that in draft mode, so it will get better with real-time...

It's really easy to do that in photoshop. Just select > colour range to get the colour you want to change. Then do Image > adjust > Hue/saturation to change the colours. Voila! Infinite possibilities.

Wow is right! I'm guessing if you know how to do it then it must be a fairly standard set of steps. I'm going to bring my son into this conversation and maybe you can tell him how you did it. He is fairly familiar w/ Photoshop.
Thanks again Demonhale!!!
This is Nathan, Sam's son. I tried altering the images but couldn't figure out how to do it with good end results. Was wondering if you could give me a step by step process on how you were able to alter the image colors so cleanly and quickly. It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah you can do that and if the colors of the elements you dont want included is the same as the one you want to change, your image is messed up... Better use layers,...
I use Jascs Paintshop Pro for this one

Well you could try Megans Process and see that colors will bleed(in extreme color ranges)...
So you need to use layers, so that colors will be isolated(whatever color range)...

I tried a few doing exactly as I described above and it worked fine. Using select > color range worked well here (if you want more precision you could use masking to fine tune the selection). In the color range dialog box you can use the slider to adjust how much green to select. I found 95 to work well for this image. Then choose Image > adjust > colour range and use the hue slider to change the colour. It works fine, there's no bleeding or anything.
There will be problems here if you want to go lighter though.

Demonhale, this is Nathan. With Jascs Paintshop Pro can you choose the exact color using the color code or are you just eyeballing it like you would be doing with Photoshop and the hue/saturation? We have a file of color images that we'd like to be able to match up. Can that be done?

Well hue and saturation is the way its done thru eyeballing, You could try color/hue map micro adjustment to compare colors then it would match up at about 90%.... Well in Paintshop you could use different approaches, The three step process in Photoshop can be done with hue map control in paintshop...

With hue saturation you don't have to eyeball either. You can choose "colorize" and it will use the foreground swatch colour.

Does your son use any other photo editing applications... And what mainly is the problem?
