Changing the color of a GIF -

I hire out almost all of my graphics work, as I my apptitude is more how to make them work, than how to make them look good. But if somebody could help with a quick question I would appreciate it.

I found a background .gif that has a nice border that I would like to incorporate into my web page. What I like is the way the 3 shades of blue, from light to dark, intermingle and I would like to achieve the same effect only in green, which is my sites color scheme. Is there an easy way to do this?

Jeff,

All you need to do is goto a simple paint or graphics program and then open up the .gif image. Then simply change the colors using the color palette.

If you need more help with this please let us know.

The home page is the color scheme I'm playing with. If you click on Search Engines, the border I want to change will appear.

Is this what you were looking for?

Original sample:

Reworked sample:

This was produced using Adobe Photoshop 3 by adjusting the color balance and brightness/contrast. I adjusted cyan/red to -100, magenta/green to +100, and yellow/blue to -100. I adjusted brightness to -25 abd contrast to +15.

After the changes, I had to cut away what was the white part of background (as it had become a muddy gray) and replace with a white panel. Finally, I reapplied a shadow to match the original image.

The full image (ready for use on your site) can be downloaded from www.eons.com/images/blu2grn.jpg

You can reduce the size of these images (JPEGs) by using the the JPEG Wizard http://www.eons.com/jpegwiz.htm or save as a GIF and use the GIF Cruncher http://www.eons.com/gifcruncher.htm

Thanks Jeffrey!

It's pretty close, only looks a little less bright, but now thanks to your excellent post I'm confident I can take it the rest of the way.

Also I see how UBB works. Excellent!

To brighten, adjust the brightness/contrast as needed. I was attempting to match the green image from your top page. Feel free to eMail or post if I can help in any other way.

OK, I see what you mean, you want to recreate the blue border in green. Normally I would just use three different greens and then blur together (or something to that effect) but this must be more complicated to warrant the confusion; any chance of a link to this picture, as it would make it easier for us to see the problem;
Thanks,
JP

This issue looks sorted but I would just like to point out that on your home page I could hardly read any of the writing in the column. My eyes are still watering

Understood, but I'm still playing around. The only reason it is up at all is so fine folks like those in this group can help out. Sorry about your eyes.

Thanks for the reply's. I have just moved to a new ISP and I've sent a support request for my URL. When I get it I will post the gif. Until then.....

The image in question looks like a cobble stone path complete with grout lines. The "stones" are of varying shades of blue. It will be easier to see when I post it.

It seems as if I'm going to have to learn how to manipulate simple images if I'm going to find success in this industry. But again thanks for the replies. So far I like what I see here and plan to participate often.
