Banner creation charges/java tutorial - questions about what to charge

Hi, 'dog here. I have a client that wants me to do some freelance banner creation, and I'm wondering what to charge him. The banner sizes are 468x60, (of course) then 120x60, 125x60, 125x125, 125x270, and 129x60. Some banners would be text/graphic only, some would be much more intricate and scripted. Any suggestions as to standard charges?
Also, I need to brush up on the java scripting required, anyone know of a good online tutorial (free if possible?) I am still just getting started in this business, and need all the breaks I can get. I've got 3 websites to my credit so far, and that is what lured this client to me. I thank you in advance for any and all help,

You might find the JS tutorial at my site helpful. Go to the url below to try it out. Smiling

I don't know what to charge for graphics though, someone with more experience in that area should have some suggestions for you. Smiling

The price of the banner will vary greatly depending on several factors (standard banner is example):
- good graphic non animated, expected CTR of over .7% : $30
- good graphic animated, say 5 frames, expected CTR of over .7%: over $80
- rich text, good graphic, expected CTR of over .7%: over $100

This is a very rough table, based on a few of my recent experiences, your ability and marketing skills come into the equation.
Good day.

Ouch! I'm glad I make my own graphics, but that probably shows too, hehe.

Yoiks! I am assuming these are US funds? WOW. Well, not really, I'm not surprised, nothing is cheap nowadays, and this type of designing is not easy to learn either, and it's time-consumng no matter how good you are. If one is really good at this type of designing, then that person's time should be worth more, I think so anyway. Thanks for the help. Any thoughts and suggestions from others are welcome as well. Thanks again,

Hi Cyberdog,
Pricing is a good question, I've been comparing pricing all over the place to see exactly what I'm worth Smiling. The range is huge!!! ($20-$70 hourly) If I were you I would compare your skills/talent with others in the same talent/skill range --- dont' underestimate yourself. If your client didn't ask you up front what you charge then chances are it's not so much an issue as having some great quality banners. I would charge by the hour (all banners are not equal) do the tutorials on your own time though.

take care,

Also, make sure that the client knows what range to be expecting to pay in before you start. Because, even if you think pricing isn't an issue, they may decide not to pay if they were not told how much it would cost them. This sort of thing happened with one of our designers a while ago... Sad

Well the prices are steep but the banners are generally of very good quality - however I am sure shopping about could net you a better deal.

I don't do this lucrative sideline anymore Sad

It is rare for any client to ask for a single banner;
usually a set of 6 or 14 is produced
