Ban all gifs? $5000 fee to use them on sites ??? - Is this crazy or what! (Posted by SabrinaP)
This is actually old news... I read the agreement made by Unisys, and you don't have to worry... It states that if your using a commercial product to make your gifs, then it's ok, you don't have to pay the fee.

Most graphics programs already have an agreement with Unisys already so it's OK

Yep, as said earlier as long as you use gifs made with a commercial program you are probably covered. To me, I find it very doubtful that they will be able to enforce this, even if the images are not made by a commercial program. I'm not sure if there is something embeded in the gif that tells which program made it, but even if there is it would be impossible to search all sites on the internet for unlicensed gif images.
