animation software?
Hi,
I have an animated .gif file that was sent to me which I need to edit. What software will do this? I only really need to change the canvas size, but if I do that in Photoshop it's no longer animated afterward (unless there's something I don't know). I haven't worked with animated .gif files very much. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Phyllis

Well if you have Photoshop 5.5 or 6, it should have come with Adobe ImageReady 3.0 as well. If you have that, then you can edit the animated GIFs in that. Otherwise, there are many good free animated GIF programs available from http://www.download.com. I use GIF Movie Gear, which I highly recommend, but isn't free.

I use gifcon32 it's a shareware program without any time limit and very easy to use to create and edit your animated gif. Below is the link to download the software/program and tutorial.

Hey thanks!
I did have Adobe ImageReady and it worked fine. I'll check out some of the other software you suggested too as I may have occasion to start creating animated banners.

I think the Gimp also lets you edit an animated gif as layers, much like Photoshop (but free open source )
I used to be a PaintShopPro and gifcon user, now I just fire up the Gimp!
Speaking of animation programs, I have been intrigued by Flypaper, a kind of Flash/Powerpoint hybrid ( used to be free too, there is still a free trial )

Irfan view is more of a photo/document reader though you can do minor edits like change the color to b/w or sepia. I don't think it can be used for image animation. I don't believe it reads animation well anyways.

i would like to know, how to create the web animation. i would like to make it clear that 3D web animation is different from animation, coz of the file size, 3D web animation gets easily loaded, normal animation on web takes ages to load.

Deluxe Paint from Electronic Arts is a good animation software for 2D programs. Electronic Arts has recently upgraded its Amiga version to Deluxe Paint 5. It has a rich assortment of painting and retouch tools, including color, blend, smear, shade, mix, color-cycle and rub-through.

While FotoMorph is pretty easy to use once you get used to it, the bright interface is a turnoff, as is the strangely-arranged tool set.

I think when this thread was started, no good software was available to edit pictures and make animations.
Thanks to lots of progress in computer software field, now you can find thousands of software which can make good animations, 3D videos and whatever you think.

I think flash is the best software for animation, but I'm probably a lil bias. It can be done in later versions of Photoshop; or if you have an older version of photoshop, then you probably have a version of imageready somewhere that came with it, which is basically what merged with photoshop in the later versions.
