2 Companies, 1 Shared Website - Logic problem
I must build a website for a product that has two distributors in North America. While the product info is the same, each company has different accessories, pricing, service policies, and contact details. I had about a week to get something up for them, so right now they have a site that forces users to choose their location on the home page, which takes them to the appropriate pages for their distributor. www.dtgamerica.com I think this works best from the user's view because they get all the correct pricing, contact info, etc. but I know this is going to cause trouble with search engines and the PPC campaign. I was planning to build shared landing pages so that content could be shown before choosing a location (also needed for the PPC) and these pages could be indexed by the search engines.
Now the two companies are asking me to rebuild the site with as much content as possible right up front, without making the user choose his/her location/distributor until they try to access information that is distributor-specific (pricing, phone number, etc.) I did a similar site for these two companies a few years ago, and it just bugs me from a design standpoint as well as a user standpoint. www.swfamerica.com Stats were showing that far too many people were hitting the home page then leaving. I went back and added huge red "click here" flags to get people to click through to the distributors sites, which helped the click through numbers a bit, but I still don't think this is the best method.
Once I've satisfactorily solved this problem for the new site, I plan to apply the same logic to the older site as well. I just don't know how best to keep both the end user and the search engines happy with such a site. Any and all suggestions appreciated.
