That's the thing... there was no reason for it to expire. The domain had been paid for in advance for several years (it was due for payment 03/2003)... So, I am currently awaiting response from the registrar (still) to submit this...
seriously, this really stinks - I hope you guys can get some remediation on this dispute - some $$ would be nice, but that would probably be difficult to accomplish given the nature of the legal situation in HK, among other things - I guess when ya have somethin' worth stealin', some creep will eventually come along and try t' lift it
good luck in yer pursuit of (at least some) justice
This isn't the latest in a string of incompetent bumbling by Verisign. It was ANOTHER REGISTRAR?! WTF? Fricking unbelievable. What is it going to take to stop these people?
Fair warning, however, I know of two people (friends) who lost their domain names from registerclub.com as well, because NMF was supposed to renew the names and didn't.
This really sucks...
Chad i hope you can get some satifaction..
do we need to bombard any one with emails?
I still don't get how a domain name that is paid for can be sold to another person, with out the owners knowledge?
I got a letter in the snail mail from Verisign telling me i needed to renew my domain...not.
And the fine print says by renewing now you will be changing registrars, to them!!
No Way.
But this is a different thing...just how can this happen if the domain isn't expired???

I've been doing a bit of research on this company ultsearch.com . Apparently it takes the domain names and parks them, hijacking the traffic to the site. I have read about numerous sites that have been hijacked like this. Here is some info on one site:
Quote: Our host did not notify us to renew our domain name,
it expired and now is owned by someone else...We have
done everything to try to get it back, and finally
decided to move on a new one, as we couldn't even
reach the new owner...
The new owner took our domain name, to legally "steal"
our traffic, by redirecting it to his search engine...
Fortunately, over 90% of our traffic was coming from
our subscribers. He really, doesn't know what he is
doing, if he thinks that webmasters and business
owners, will buy from his "Next Card Visa" affiliate
banner...Furthermore, it seems that he set up the
whole ultsearch.com, just to make money...This
usually, doesn't work.
This very important situation has caused us a lot
of troubles, but right now, the most important
thing is to get our site back online as soon as
possible. It will be under the name:
eInfoReporterEzine.com , that fortunately most of you
liked.

Hey! Wasn't anyone gonna tell me! I've been going through withdrawals here. I felt like the family dog who got home only to find everyone had moved.
I checked the whois on Monday when I couldn't access the site and found it available for registration. In retrospect, I should have just grabbed it for y'all
In any event, a rose by any other name...
Thanks to Suzanne for putting that update on her blog!

I believe it was stolen. Or at the very least, it's been lost.

It seems that the domain name expired and someone has re-registered it.

Be VERY careful with your domain names.

Taff, we are only going to keep those who were able to figure it out for themselves, LOL.

Nope. In fact, *I* sent Chad an email asking what was up. Didn't hear back.
I did change my email address in the profile at one point - perhaps he was working off an old list.
