Whats with all the members
I see we have over 10 000 members an only about a hundred active members
Do you prune members once a year or what?
are you planing to a prune soon?

We've never actually pruned before. Some of the former admins were afraid of losing the lurkers. We are planning on doing some cleanup after the sale goes through, before we move to the new server.

A lot of them are probably people who came in and advertised something in The Market Place, or posted their site in the Website Critique Area just for indirect adverts.

I agree with mscreashuns. It's very annoying when someone joins just to spam. You could probable trim them easily, lets say they only have 1-3 posts and havent posted in months. That would probaly get rid of half of them.

Hmmph, well we've had our two week summer in England and it's descending into autumn now. Still getting a little nice weather but the leaves are falling and the nights are drawing in... Soon be Christmas!
I'll second that

I'm not sure what the point of pruning members is. They don't take up much pace, or bandwidth for that matter. And the number of members you have is a good measure of how successful a site is. Just because all 10,000 don't post, doesn't mean they should be pruned. I have members from the first week that keep their email addy's active and lurk around the site, but only have 1 or 2 posts. And they enjoy the newsletters they get.
Not that it's my business, but I'd suggest not pruning members.

I figure about 90% of the members with less than 2 posts are most likely spammers. Anyone who is not will have a chance to re-activate their accounts before they are pruned. I am planning on sending out a mass email when the ownership is finallized which will hopefully bring back a lot old members. Only accounts that have been inactive for an extended period of time will be removed.
I do value your advice, skyhawk There are definitely pros and cons to it, for sure. It is misleading when the numbers say 10,000 members but there are actually much fewer who are actually active. Members will bring it up occasionally to (as in this thread).

Some of us less active members have been here for quite awhile
I would hate to get pruned! I have enough of that in real life
Personally I hope to become more active on the board in the near future, this is a good community.
