Suggestions
If you have any suggestions on improvements or adjustments that you would like to see at TWF, please post them here. There is now way I can go through all the posts and find things that have been posted over time, so if you have any pet peeves or see things you really would like to see changed, please post here so that I can work on them.
A couple of things that I would like feedback on:
- What do you think of the design? Do you like it? Like the colors? Is it easy to use and navigate? Do you like the left-hand menu or would you rather have a horizontal menu? TWF is mainly a forum, and as such, I want to keep the focus towards a forum like site ...
- The home starter page that was once what you would see if you visited http://www.webmaster-forums.com ... That has of course been pushed aside since I move the forums to the main directory. Do you think that should be seen first by visitors, or do you think they should jump directly to the forums? Should we keep that page with maybe a link to it? You can see that page at http://www.webmaster-forums.com/index2.html now if you aren't sure what I am talking about.
And the rest is up to you. Please post it all... Everything you think is wrong or needs changed with TWF!

I think we should have a showcase every month or so. Kind of like a contest, to honor those of us who show surpassing skill in ither the actual webmasterin', or in sheer help they provide.
Other than that, Blue's my favorite color, so I'm not complaining.
The Private Message hack for vBulletin would prove to be quite the addition.
I also think that we should shrug off some of the "Dead Weight"; you know, the people that registered just to ask one or two questions, and then booked. Make somekind of cut-off point.

I liked the old startpage that was there so you clicked to enter. Instead of going right to the forums.
Also on the post page the image on top is still broken.
I don't really like the new thing much that has just been added. How the name shows up in one color and the info about you in the white.

I like the changes that you have made already, and look forward to the rest.
As for the doorway page, Parker, I am curious why you liked it? I am glad that I am delivered riectly to the forums rather than having to click on a link to view the forums. One idea you could use Chad, use cookies. Set a cookie when the doorway page loads, and if that cookie is found the next time a person visits the site, forward them directly to the forums.

Thank you Rob, Mike, and Parker for the suggestions.
Mike, I have debated adding the private messaging hack that has been created for vB v1 but v2 is supposed to be coming out late November or early December and it will have a built in private messaging feature. I am debating whether or not to wait until that release for the messaging hack, since it is so close to release now. I am also planning to deal with the "Dead Weight" issue by sending all users with <5 posts a message just to remind them to come... Those with 0 posts that are older than 3 months will be removed from the database by the end of this month and I plan to routinely do this to keep things neat and tidey! And finally, the showcase, this is also an idea that I am willing to entertain, if we have enough support for it...
Parker, I will be working on the post page today, as it is one of the only pages that has had no real work done to improve it. I personally like having the name info and all the really important info on the first line of the thread, with the body below it (seems more logical to me) but if anyone else liked the reply, profile, mail, url, etc information toward the bottom and the name where it was, please speak up and we'll adjust it.
Rob (and Parker), I thought about cookies and that is what I will eventually do. It is going to take some PHP programming though so it's going to take me a bit to get it setup.
Again, thanks you guys for the suggestions!

Hi Chad,
Just little things like broken images on the newreply.php and the margins do not appear to be set at 0 on this same file.
Other then that, I like the changes, the front page can go either way for me. I like the little changes that you have made so far.
Just the last point is not something you can fix...really. I'd just like to see more activity going on. New posts, new ideas.

The edit profile link wouldn't work for me (you could be updating it right now though). The link pointed to:
http://www.webmaster-forums.com/forums/member.php?action=editprofile
and gave me a 404.

John,
Because we moved the forums to the root directory, that file is no longer in the /forum directory.
Try http://www.webmaster-forums.com/member.php?action=editprofile
Where did you find that link?

Thanks for the new URL. The link was on the main page when I tried it.
It might be fixed now though.

As someone already said, that broken image on the post pages have grown to annoy me. Also, I like having a seperate column on the forum pages with who the thread-starter was, not having him/her underneath the thread title. Not to mention the fact that I think the hot topic icons should change to animated ones, not the plain ones we use now. More suggestions will be on the way when they come to me.

I like the idea of ditching the main (splash) page for good, since there was no actual content there anyways!
I also do not like the side navigation. It would be better IMO if it were horizontal, and the forums were 90-95% of the screen. I do like the new look, but navigation is a little teadious.

Chad -
Also, the tag needs to be activated so when people use quotes, the code doesn't show up when it isn't supposed to. Another thing: it would be nice if you could put the page number links on long threads at the bottom of each thread page, not just the top.

1) I'd say just wait for vB 2 to come out, 'cause private messaging isn't that necessary. It's more of a luxury.
2) There is an extra line after the copyright statement table.
3) I like how when you type in the address it takes you right to the forums. Much better then that crappy looking intro page...

Also, we need to deal with the Moderator situation. Some of our Mods aren't around anymore. Here's a list I compiled...
1) I remember John Pollock wanting to be removed from Moderator of the HTML & JavaScript Forum. He's not around too much either. So we'll need another Moderator for this forum.
2) Stefen Enns fell off the face of the earth, so we need a new Moderator for the Hosts Forum.
3) Mountain WorldWide isn't around anymore, so I'd suggest giving Marc James the Moderator status of that forum since he's doing a good job with his other forums.
4) Patrick A Baer isn't around anymore, so we need a new Moderator of the Jobs and Barter Forum.

When a topic is more then 1 page long, have a link at the bottom so we dont have to scroll to the top to click and go to the 2nd or 3rd page.
If no ones wants to moderate the jobs and barter forum, i would be willing.

Hi
I agree with most of what you have said Justin but I dont think you should give Marc James another forum (nothing against him) but:
1) You haven't really had a chance to assess his contribution as a moderator..
2) He's a new mod and already under two forums and Chad Simper is the only one with more then two forums to moderate so I don't think it would be appropriate to assign a new moderator to three forums without fully evaluating his contribution to these forums, it's also good to have a mix of ideas and suggestions from different people.
3) There are alot of other members who are very helpful who I think you should give a chance in some of the forums where the mods are no longer active.
Again, nothing against Marc James. He's doing a great job, but I just believe he has enough for now and it would be nice to give one of the active members a chance to take on the new positions. And if I were to suggest someone *grins* I would suggest Mike. I know he's like the TWF clown, but still he has his points, and for the most part makes TWF more interesting.

The only posts I've really read from Mike were something to this effect "Mooohahahahaha" or "HAAHAHAHHAHAHA".
Suggestions
- As mentioned add to people able to change pages at the bottom of the discussion too instead of just the top. It is iritating having to scroll back and forth.
- Thing we should make 15 posts to 1 page instead of 9 or 10 like it is now.

Note: There were no 'Mooahahahah!'s or 'Hahahahah!'s in my previous posts. Parker, step into this dark alley with me..
J/k.
To make this have a point:
I agree that we need to up the number of posts per page. It's annoying enough to have to scroll back to the top, but with the amount of posts that are brought into each subject so quickly, it's a big hassle.
Which brings me to my next point: I second the idea to add a link at the bottom to switch between pages.
Another thing: when I tried to edit my profile yesterday, I was pretty much lost. I think we should add a direct link to editing the profile, perferably in that little bar at the top of each post [where it says "home page," "profile," etc.]
All kidding aside, I do believe that we need to start to clear off some of the dead weight [as I've said many times.] Some of the aforementioned moderators are, as we all know, not here.
Anyways, I just wanted to just show my support for a few of the ideas that're curculating.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. All of them are on my todo list.
Some definite things that I am already working on or will have changed soon:
- Moderator replacements - I know we have some that are no longer around and I have been working on this since day 1
- Page links at the bottom for long threads
- Up the max pages to a thread page to 15
- The broken image on the post page, and all other design related stuff
- Navigation issues
Marc, would you explain the italics thing you are talking about? I don't really understand what your asking ...
Keep the suggestions coming because I am listening! I didn't have much time to work on the site yesterday, but I'll bet getting some of this accomplished tomorrow.

Okay here's a couple more problems.
On the showthread.php alot of the links in the navigation are still pointing to the ../forums/ directory. (I.E. Search, Edit Profile, and Register) so I kept on getting 404's but I eventually figured it out because you said you had moved all the files to the root directory.

Hi everyone,
I fully agree with Ravi's recommendation and support Mike
as a candidate for a moderator post.
TWF doesn't look good to me considering the many helpful members that seldom visit TWF now.
TWF needs new blood such as Mike to add some kick to members and at the same time being serious when required.
Although Chad and Justin are doing their best but it won't help much unless TWF take steps to intergrate a team of helpful members such as Mike to add some action.
Personally, I find Mike a very helpful and versatile person and would definitely stand by him anytime.
Regards

How about a TWF Link to us page?
With buttons and such, so if the users want to, they can link to twf. I think you might be surprised the amount of users who might not mind linking to TWF.
On the Reply to topic page, set the margins to zero andhave the table be 100% so it will look like all the other pages.
The table on the edit page is a little big too.
What ever happened to the merging idea?
That could add alot of smart and talented people. as NSS said, we need more informative people.
