I liked it better when perl and other languages had separate forums rather than being lumped together.

It seems like the boards were much more active then. I wonder if there is any connection?

Hi Andrew,

I believe additional forums would be added and larger ones would be separated only if those larger forums consistently had large amounts of activity. Until that happens, I think things should stay as they are. No one wants a half dozen dead forums.

right. my point was that when perl had it's own forum, it was quite active. now the server side scripting forum is dead in comparison, with only a few posts per day at best. perhaps the reason WHY it is dead is due to the structure of the forum

I see your point, but I'm not sure if I agree with it. I would be all for a slightly different forum organization scheme, but that's not up to me. Mark or Chad, what do you think?

It's up to Chad.

My opinion is that I think it would be a pain to figure out how to split the posts if we split up the forum. We would probably end up having to make a 'Resevoure' forum that held all the old posts from the combined forums.

I think it should stay consolidated, if it was to be broken up it shouldn't be done by language/technology (ie. Perl/CF/PHP/ASP etc), otherwise you would end up with 10+ forums just dedicated to server-side languages! I would break it up by Server OS (ie. UNIX/LINUX/Windows/SUN etc), while it's true many of the languages I listed are OS independant the vast majority are used on specific OS due to ease of use and effeciency.
