'Preview' Feature?
I noticed at the Site Point Forums that they have a useful 'Preview' feature that allows you to preview your post before actually posting it. I am not sure if the version of UBB that TWF is currently using supports this feature, but if it does, I think it would be a welcomes addition (especially for myself, as I am known to make spelling/grammatical errors all the time ..)

It is a fairly easy hack to do, and that is how they did it.

I agree with robp, having a preview feature is good as I am always making mistakes and have to edit a lot of times. Maybe my brain doesn't work well with my fingers

I'd say once we put in the new design, that the following hacks should be included: preview feature, times around the world, and who's online. I like those three.

maybe an option to choose what time zone you wish this UBB in? I understand the "times around the world" bit, but....hmm, it could mean several things.

I dunno if I like the preview feature very much. Also, I wouldn't use vBulletin, they REALLY copied the UBB. However, it is MUCH faster. And robp would [b]LOVE[b] the fact that it uses PHP and mySQL.

Matt,
Are you suggesting that we shouldn't use vBulletin simply because they "copied" UBB? The only thing that was really copied was the layout. The entire backend is obviously very different since it is in a completely different language. I'm not one for copying things, but I am not going to pass up the use of a product simply because they "REALLY" copied another. Look at the new Fords compared to the Dodges - they are a lot alike and Ford basically copied the Dodge with some simple modifications but what's behind them is extremely different. Are you not going to use a Ford simply because they "copied" the Dodge style?
I would personally also recommend using that board simply because PHP/mySQL is quite possibly the fastest setup on the 'net. It would be a great modification since TWF currently runs UBB and since vBulletin is a spin-off of UBB, people already know the layout and how things work.
In regards to the preview feature, it think it is a good idea as long as it is an option and it isn't something that every user has to deal with (like making it so that when you submit a post, it shows you the preview instead of submitting the post). I personally don't want to have to click an extra button if I don't have to

hmm matt you say you wouldnt use VBulletin because they copied UBB, ummm you use big talker don't you!?
now thats really wierd, because big talker looks identical to UBB too in most ways.
I'd also make use of the preview feature

Program your own BBS? That way TWF would have all the best features.

The preview feature would just add another button saying "Preview." So you could Preview, Post, or Clear Fields. You wouldn't have to click two buttons

Ravi: That is why I am switching to the UBB
JP: That is the only reason I didn't want the preview feature, because if I hit enter, it would preview it instead of posting it!

Maybe when Stefen gets done with BoardZilla (since he seems to be the only one working on it now adays) we could use that.

MATT: we could program it so that it would be the second button, and pushing "enter" would still post the message.
PARKER: Stefen is still trying to decide whether to finish the perl version, or start on a server side java version. He's also pondering the idea of making it a remotely hosted script.

I ran a hacked version of the UBB for a while, and I did switch over to vbulletin a short while ago. I was a beta tester for vBulletin and while it does have some minor bugs, it is much more stable that the UBB in so many ways, not to mention it is much more suited for a large site.
