Moderator Buttons - Moderators and Users comments
I have been talking with JP on the buttons that can be found at the bottom of every page now (if you didn't notice them, scroll down and you will see them) [edit by JP: Oi! Chad they are not that hard to find!] [edit by Chad: JP, thank you for that addition ... However, like I said, I didn't see them until I received the e-mail so I thought there might be others that hadn't. Forgive me for saying anything!]. The first two are always the same but the last one rotates between each of the moderators. I am not sure how many moderators there are but I would I am going to assume that five buttons will be rotated through.
My question to everyone is: Where do you think these buttons should be placed? Leave them at the bottom? Move them up top under the links ([free promotion - marketing tips - hot links! etc])? Next to the moderators name in the forum(s) that they moderate?
I am interested in hearing what moderators, users, and visitors think? The banners will be somewhere, but where is the question?

Some more comments:
- The button for each moderator should receive about 10 000 impr a month.
- My button is clocking about 0.5% CTR.
- I will soon have two of the buttons randomly showing 1 of 3 choices. This will result in more impressions.
- I have left some space as I intend to introduce a competition to win button space for a month.
- Having the buttons at the top looks messy and cluttered (I tried), sorry.
- The other idea is to have a TEXT link on all the pages in your forum next to the:
Forum moderated by 'x moderator' of www.yoursite.com
Any thought appreciated.

John, Jes,
You have both brought up very good points. I guess my next question would then be: Next to the name of the moderator (at the top of the forum where it says "Forum moderated by [input name here]") do you think it would look "cluttered" if we just added "from [input url here]" next to the line? This was JPs idea and I think I like it. Input?

Chad,
I guess that would be ok
Adding a couple of letters more to a line won't change much - I see no reason why the moderators shouldn't be able to get some more recognition.
Thanks moderators!..You are doing a good job.

Jes,
The moderators are only here to supervise. Those of you that visit and offer advice and help on a regular basis are the true moderators. Without the help of you guys/gals, we (moderators) couldn't do it! Everyone who participates has offered some very good advice and I have learned a great deal in the two months I have been participating here.
This just goes out to everyone that participates: Keep up the good work!

Chad, JP,
I saw'em, saw'em and saw'em again! Maybe I am a " scroll-all-the-way-to-the-very-end-surfer" But I think they are clearly visible....and neat looking.
So leave them where they are.
Don't start putting them by the moderators....It'll be cramped!
Just some small change from me..

Yes, I think the link by the Moderator's name would be a good idea.
Let's try it and see how it works!

I think the bottom is the best place for the buttons, the clutter up top would be too much. It would lower the click through rate of evrything else in the area, and there is the paid sponsor JP has to keep happy. We don't want to devalue the sponsor's banner and the usability of the forums. I would love more traffic as much as anyone, but it won't happen if we clutter up the forums and the visitors go elsewhere.
I learned some of this the hard way-- having too many banners and buttons in one area severely lowers the value of everything around it.
Besides, with the buttons at the bottom, it means the viewer finished the thread. So when they visit you, they will probably stay a while.
