It is indeed annoying for regulars - but also essential for newbies as a simple link would be ignored

JP, you could write a CGI script that that saves a cookie on the client side upon first visit and if the script finds the Cookie on the next visit it automatically redirects the visitor to the forums.
Just an idea,

The front page with the welcome message can be really annoying for come-back visitors. I would rather you go straight to the message board and have a link with like "First Time?" and they can click on it and read about TWF.
