Forum message volume
Its been awhile since I've visited, but it appears now that the meeasge volume has sunk a little. Especially the web critique areas etc. It used to always seem really active, but now it seems like this forums is the only really active one here. Anyone else noticed this? is it actually true?

Ok here's the way I see it.
There was a crucial period in which alot of popular webmaster forums started to pop up. Young and "old" webmasters alike found places where they could interact with each other and change ideas. However each of these sites had something unique. During this crucial period TWF lost its identity because of lack of updates / changes to the site.
Basically when TWF was faced with competition (sitepoint/gethigh/geekvillage) it didnt seem to fare very well and now that competition has pulled users away from TWF. I see some dedicated TWF users spending much more time on SP then I ever do I TWF, I dont blame them cuz I know there is alot more activity on SP. And again I see alot of users being pulled to forums for their speciality..i.e. here are mine:
geekvillage = advertising
sitepoint = alot of posts (different ideas / opinions)
gethigh = advertising / sell sites.
webhosting = web hosting
twf = general.
anyway! maybe that can account for TWF. I don't think its anything major which can't be fixed. If the board keeps up then there is no reason why the people won't come back. It's just the other sites seem alot more dedicated and interested in their forums (I see alot more admin activity). I understand Chad is busy though and TWF isn't his main concern.

I admit I spend more time at SP, but can you blame me? There's a lot more going on there. I fullfil my responsibilities here. Who says we can't bring TWF back to glory? I say we can!

I visit Spotforums.com a lot now. I really don't come here as much anymore, as when the change was made.

Yes, you're correct in saying the volume has gone down - because it has. I believe we lost a lot of users when we upgraded from UBB to vBulletin. In a nutshell, there were some huge problems which weren't fixed for a while, along with the fact that the upgraded went on for a few months (JP was very busy).
By the way, I'm moving this thread to the Forum Specific Comments forum.

i think the crappy advertising market has something to do with it also. i don't see nearly as many new webmasters (not professionals) making sites and so on these days.
