Cookie Reset - very @#$$%^& (Posted by Joseph Bannon)
I know you guys added a feature to reset the cookie, but I didn't get a chance to read posts and it reset itself. How is someone suppose to know where the new posts are when it resets before you can read them?

Joseph, I'm the one who added that feature, and it's working perfectly for me. But 2 people (including you) told me about problems when using IE, while other IE users told me it was working fine for them.
Could you tell me exactly what you did once you got in TWF? What links did you click on?
Thanks

I get that problem also! I use IE5, and once i reply to one message, it resets them all! either that or it resets it once i enter a forum.

I think Chad mentioned something about the Home link... are you guys clicking on the "Home" link at the nav bar? I could easily change the link to a special home page link (something like http://www.webmaster-forums.com/cgi-bin/bigtalker/bigtalker.cgi?cookie=b...), where the cookie wouldn't be resetted.

Yes, I think that is it. If you use the "Back" button on the browser it works fine, but the "Home" link will reset the posts.

Ok... http://www.webmaster-forums.com/cgi-bin/bigtalker/bigtalker.cgi?cookie=bypass is now enabled, this is the main page but cookies are not updated or resetted. I don't have time to update every file, so one of the administrators should change the Home link to the url above (It's like 5 or 6 files), in order for the new feature to work smoothy.
P.S: I haven't tested it, but the ?cookie=bypass addition should be working

I also use IE5... what I do is load the first page, which is correctly 'highlighted'. I then open up each category into a new window and read over the new messages in that category. I then close that 2nd window and do the same for the second category with new messages. I do that until I am done. On all other BigTalkers (including my own), I then reset the cookie manually. With yours, that isn't necessary.

Chad... would you mind to look at the code (almost at the top of bigtalker.cgi) and see if you can find any possible bug? Since this only ocurrs with IE, I guess that it's either not being able to set or to retrieve one of the cookies.

I just came back to the home page from the Graphic Design forum using the "Home" button. All my posts were reset. Has this forum been fixed yet?

I use NS 4.7. Add the bypass to the home link. I still get the problem by the way. I think it's the logic you used behind the automatic reset that is making not work.
If you guys come up with a logic that works, I'll add it to BT.

Federico,
It doesn't appear to have fixed the problem... When I click on the link you provided, it resets the cookie...

I'll wait for a response from either Chad or Patrick to see if they can spot a bug.
P.S: I don't know why, but the cookie bypass is working perfectly for me... I wonder what's the problem

Joseph and Federico,
I cleaned up and/or deleted some of your posts... Didn't belong posted at TWF.

Well... one of the middle messages contained an important note to everyone, so I'll post it again
I found a little bug on the previous system I implemented, but now it's fixed and the bypass cookie link should work for *everyone*.

My apologies Federico... I went through the inappropriate messages quickly and shouldn't have deleted that part.
