I did this because it gave me an excuse to do some things that I don't normally do:
I used an all css layout (I normally still use tables and control everything with css)
I did a fixed width layout (This is something I never do, I always use fluid design/layout)
I optimized it for 1024 X 768 minimum (I still use 800 X 600 an the minimum for *real* sites)
Anyway...it was fun!
Here is my entry.

This was a bit of a group effort with the help of some friends. We decided to create a site as a laugh for a certain good friend of ours. As I was already planning on having a pop at this competition, it seemed logical to combine the two.
Anyway here is our entry
Please just judge the first page for the competition as it's the only bit I kept all valid xhtml strict. There are two other links on this 'site' which have evil embedded sounds and are purely the 'fun' part of the site. Oh yeah I forgot not all the 'links' are real lol.
Right well credit where credit's due... so here are the credits:
Thanks for looking

Uhm, yes please I'm about 80% done with my design. It seems I haven't got much time to work on it until the weekend.
Only if it won't be a problem ofcourse

Well if the color is right (which I thought it was) I'll put URTournament.org into the competition as a working web with some members.
If the color isnt right and I had time (between work) I would change the color scheme to the right orange so I guess you can use your imagination. LOL.

Heck I'd say if it's only two, just let it go for this time, and hope for more next time.
Can't wait to go back and read Monkeyboys's site when I have the time to do so. What I read was hysterical!! LOVE the content!

Letting it go sounds fine by me. It was more then fun enough just to have a pop at designing a page from scratch (I use Wordpress on my main site). I'm glad you guys liked what we produced... maybe we'll think about expanding and produce some proper content now that it's started.
I must say i'm really impressed with Roo's page. That's alot of anger over Grocery Stores there hehe, Just don't get me started on Cash Machines.
Luv it though!
Peace out all, i'm off to bed

That site was created by the people I used to work with before moving to Canada. As you can tell, it's quite a mad office. Seems they miss their McMarmott (my surname's McDermott) and am a Marmot because of the way I used to pop-up over some cupboards whenever the test team were having fun (well I couldn't miss out).
I also had to keep that Ikon character in check, he's the head of that so-called 'Test Team', they just sit on their arses all day raising bugs and trying to stitch-up the Engineering Dept (where I worked). I bet the whole company's going downhill now I'm not there to pop-up over those cupboards--like some annoying rodent freak--to tell Ikon what an awful job he's doing. Shunt!
The whole site's brilliant, am very flattered--you errrrrr, understand--sorry I haven't been in contact, have been busy filling out immigration forms, getting married and working on projects. Think I'm behind on the Marmot Monthly newsletter so better get my bum in gear.
As famous Canadian John Candyford once said:
I presume 'Big Boy' was busy watching Top Gear over the Internet again when this production was taking shape? Send my regards.

Aha of course, CoNgRaTuLiOnS on getting hitched dude... and to that loverly (now) wife of yours of course
Not sure if you've heard but Jeremy and Fi have now tied the knot at last too (but anyway it's all on his Blog if you get a chance).
The companies not going downhill but apparently TMS is without their Wonder Marmot to free up the other two reprebates lol.
Annnnyway yeah the site... glad you like.
demonhale's site looks cracking too by the way.

Thanks!, goodluck in the contest, hope we could extend the contest a bit to enable us to market and advertise the contest as well as prolong exposure to the entries... We should create some hype in the blogosphere... and DIGG...

Decided to give up some sleep
My entry
Total design is 108 Kb, tested on FF, IE6 and Safari.
The size is big, but it was great to have a chance to try that for once. Although I've clearly seen these colors enough by now, I really enjoyed making it
Theme is pretty obvious I guess

What do you mean by blog rolling??? Obivously I'm crap at promotion (was hoping some users might pick it up and spread it around - they didn't.) We did send out a bulk email to all members but it seems that they weren't really interested. I never did blog about it on my own site, although I don't think there are many reading that who don't read this forum too.
Let me knmow if you want us to send your money back or if you want to save it for the next contest. We'll do another one of these in a month or two.

Oh no! you're not going to cancel this contest are you?
Save the prizes for next time but you could still do a poll for a laugh... it would be a shame if nothing came of this contest especially as some people did put the effort in and produced some really good stuff.
You could even give it another week to give DDoSAttack a chance to enter and give more time for promotion

Well it's a good idea, certainly. As always there's the problem of promoting. Although I would rate it as a success! We've got some good entries. These things always take time to get going, we should do more impossible design contests in the future.
There're plenty more disgusting colours in the pallette to use.

You dont need colors to make it impossible. Actually a good designer should be able to make any color combo work. I thing features is what make some design impossible.
I run into users who ask for stuff that isn't impossible per say but just isn't usable.
i.e.
I want the page to display x and y but only if x and y are blank ... so you want a blank page? ... no I want to see x and y but on the condition that they are both blank ... yeah, thats a blank page ... hmm, maybe. Hey let's give it a try and see if it works!
Sad but thats a real life incident.

Well I tried to promote but hmmm it takes a month to make a dent really... Why not keep this contest live for a longer duration, and start a new contest to compliment this one, like editing a photo or something, with all the contest kept alive until it gathers enough momentum.
Blog rolling I mean we start a blog about the contests here at TWF, then we add that one way link to our own blogroll to this newly created contests blog that points to the forum, that way if we reach the 100,000 link mark at technorati, bloggers will start visiting and joining and might be a good idea to increse rankings too...

Setting up a blog would actually be a little silly, we have a whole forum at our disposal, going to a link for a blog is the same as going to a link in this forum.

Yeah, but technoratis success is based on blog sites, you can't actually use a forum to blogroll... thats my point... forumroll maybe...
BTW, this technique was used by some other forums to get their contests going, the more we find techniques to promote this, the better for TWF in the long run...

Probably still not a good idea, the internet right now is littered with blogs - most of them with very little good content - and if we just make one, then it's just adding to the crowd. Having a blog just for the sake of this contest is pointless. Infact, like I said before, having a blog for this site is a little pointless, we have a forum at our disposal.

The difference is, blogrolling is "targeted" if you tried blogging or find a professional blogger (which is a new job description now btw) those on the blogroll get quality hits, and attracts people who are actually interested on the topic... More ways to promote, better results... And remember, this is just a suggestion.

I was going to put it up on my blog (forgot to do that at the time), which is in technorati. Although I'm not sure how many people actually read it!
We'll do that for next time, okay?
