Am I an Ass - Questions about my post
Hi guys,
Time for me to be vunerable. And for you to be honest.
RE the following two comments taken from post that I responded to.
QuoteAfter the harsh review i got from jim,
and the following comment that I think was directed towards me.
QuoteEveryone Else,
Sorry about the misunderstanding. When we asked for help we meant to specify
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. Sorry about that.
Thank you for your time and your help. Please keep the CONSTRUCTIVE comments
coming.
I would like some input from ALL of you as to wether or not I am overbearing, overcritical, abusive, harsh or just plain wrong on my post. I do not wish to become a thorn in the side of all the great webmasters here at WF.
I am not going to add anymore comments or defenses here as I don't want to influence your responses.
Please, Please, Please don't blow off this post. Let me know what you really think.
If you are going to really blast me and want to spare me some embarrasment you can e-mail me but I would really like all responses here on the forums.
Thanks for your responses.

Hi Jim
Your not an ass!!!!
I don't remember the exact dialogue of the second post your talking about so I don't know if it was intended toward you or not.
Websters dictionary:
critique = an act of criticism
Criticism = to consider the merits and demerits of, and judge accordingly
Nowhere in these descriptions do I see the word "cheerleader"
although I feel like one sometimes. We are not paid professional web site critics (they would be MUCH harsher and MUCH more expensive ), but we still do our best to help people. I think to NOT be honest would be a disservice to the people who ask for an honest "critique".
take care, and hang in there!!

Jim,
I love the subject ... Caught my attention rather quickly. From what I have seen you post, I think your posts help people a lot! You give honest opinions (not saying others don't) and I think they help many greatly. Like Carolyn said, you would be doing them a disservice if you didn't tell them what you thought - That is what they are asking for. If I don't like a site and someone asks for my opinion, I am going to tell them. I don't care if they think I am an ass if I don't like it - They asked for my opinion and I gave it to them! When designing DIDS.COM, I take all opinions and at least consider them - Even if it said "the site stinks. Get a life man" ... I would still take it under consideration and see what I was doing wrong to get this response. I can only hope that those who ask for opinions do the same thing. You are giving your feelings on the site which can only help them.
To sum this post up - Hang in there - You are a great asset to TWF and we would all miss you if you were gone!

Don't get down on yourself.
From what I saw, the statement:

I don't think it was meant to be taken personally, or that the person took your review personally. Probably just a comment more on the amount of things you found than on you.
The second one looks like it got a little out of hand on both sides, but a little disagreement doesn't make you a bad person.
Besides, you did write an apology-- and that shows that you weren't trying to be hurtful with your comments.
Keep on posting, you've been a big help in my forum as well as the others! We can always use your input in the forums!

Well, this topic certainly caught my eye, too . Anyway, no I do not think that you are an ass, Jim. You do help a lot of people in these forums, and sometimes the truth hurts. If my web site sucked I would rather someone tell me so I can take steps to improve it than lose sales/visitors. I mean, is there really a nice (constructive) way to say "Your web site sucks."? If it really is bad, and beyond the point of fixing, they just need a new design, and it is good to tell them that, at least in my opinion. Keep it up, Jim....

Come one Jim, we are indeed here out of interest not obligation - if people ask for a review they will get an honest review - whether it be good or not depends entirely on the site itself. I often try and put in some positive comments, but if there are none to be included, tough, I'm not going to invent any!
How many times have I seen "thanks for the help Jim, I love these forums!" or to quote from a recent post "Thank you very much jim."
You simply cannot please everyone!
You are an extremely valued member of these forums and should in no way be forced to curb your opinions when reviewing sites.

ditto, ditto Jim.
You were asked for an honest opinion and you gave an honest opinion.
Maybe I'm being a bit of an ass in saying if you can't handle the critique, don't ask for it!
