what are these new languages?
I can write in html and javascript and one day I hope to be able to code in perl too but recently I have been seing tons about php and coldfusion. I am not interested in ASP if you have to pay but am interested in PHP3. Could someone please tell me what PHP3 is and what it can be used for? Can you code it in a normal text editor like notepad?
thanks

PHP is very cool, I use it quite a bit. Even if I'm not that great at it.
Yes, you can code it in a text pad type program.

Yes, PHP3 can be (and currently has to be) coded in a text editor (I use Notepad). There aren't any WYSIWYG editors that support PHP3 yet that I know of.
PHP3 can be used for just about anything. Its biggest purpose is usually accessing databases (mySQL usually). But, it can be used for many other functions. It can do a lot that PERL can do, but it is much easier to learn.
FYI, ASP doesn't cost anything to support... It comes with IIS so you just have to have it.

Do you reakon that there will be WYSIWYG editors that suport ASP/PHP in the near future.
I'm sure that would vastly increase the popularity of these languages...

No, I don't think there will be JP. It would be like incorporating PERL scripting into a WYSIWYG package (there isn't one that I know of). FrontPage has a very limited amount of ASP scripting ability (basically just enough to make a Access database connection). As far as I know, that is as far as it goes for programs that support ASP/PHP.

Drumbeat 2000 is a ASP WYSIWYG editor. A pretty good one at that.
I don't see a Perl or PHP WYSIWYG editor any time soom. But who knows.
