Webcam Community

Dunno if this is the right spot to put this..

I'm trying to get all the info I need to building a webcam community, if not just a video chat going..
I've looked into Programs like FlashMxServer, WEbcam XP, and found them to be lacking, and very very expensive.
I've looking into Javascripting and live streaming, but requires specific client side programs.. which lack multiple views of webcams.

Basically what I'm trying to create are pages with XX amount of webcams, and a chat window.. sorted by catagorey ofcourse.. users gointo a room, and if they have a webcam, and there's a slot open.. they can get online..
I've yet to find any type of server side code, other then the above 2 mentioned insane exploits of technology (flashmx, webcamx).
However, there are communities that do it, ie. Yahoo, Ifriends, etc.. but they keep thier info on it guarded with a iron rule, that basically sucks..

Any help you guys can give me is greatly appericiated..

try darwin streaming server wich is the open source version of quicktime streaming server. it's free and easy to use. the bigest problem i had with it is that the quicktime broadcaster is only for mac on pc there was sorenson broadcaster but it's quite expensive
