Using CGI to insert code - Using a script code into pages in a directory

Now before you tell me this script doesn't exist, let me just say that's its been done.

Just look at Hypermaart or Geocities, and you'll see how they automatically insert banner code into every page. The question is, where could I get a script that would do something like that?

I'm not talking about SSI. I'm looking for something that would auto insert code into every html file in a certain directory.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Hi,

I don't know how it works today, but some time ago
- when I used geocities - you had to upload you pages via
a cgi.

And I it's very simple to have this upload-cgi manipulate your pages.

I don't think that the pages are dynamically created by the server. Then they would have a very increased load and would have to use more hardware. They aren't that stupid.

What for do you need that script ??
Do you want to generate pages ? (go an check WML)
Or do you want to change users pages ?? (use a cron-job)

Well, to be honest, I've redesigned my site, and so I would like to have all pages match this format. Sadly, I was an idiot when I originally did the cheat pages (hundreds of pages) and I did not use SSI tags for the header, and footer. Manually changing pages would take to much time.

I know for sure it's NOT SSI on Hypermart, because users don't insert the tags themselves. Could it be a script in another langauge?
