shtm pages & error messages
We use some SSI on our site and therefore most of our filenames end in .shtm. I've recently created custom error pages for the site, however, have noticed that if the 'page not found' has an shtm ending then the standard Microsoft IE error message is shown and not the custom ones I've created. The custom error pages show up for .asp and other page types I've tested, but not shtm.
Chances are that 404 and other errors are likely to be triggered by an shtm URL on our site. FYI the site is hosted on an NT server.
Any clues would be much appreciated!

Um.. IE displays its own friendly error messages if the file size of the error is less than 10K.
So try filling up the .shtm error page with 10K+ code ( junk ) and check it out if it is displayed in IE

Not knowing if Apache or IIS is sued on the server, I would have to guess at this, but normally it is common for the error page configuration to require a certain file type. Contact your host and ask when error page types are supported.
If you can only use HTML, you can use a meta refresh to another page, or a javascript code to redirect them to an error.shtm page from an error.htm
